Looking at people looking at you
It happens with all of us and many times. You steal a glance
at someone at the precise moment that someone is stealing a glance at you too.
It happens. Some do it as they just can’t help it- a quick glance at the
approaching morning walker in the opposite direction. Those with balding heads
compete with the stylish ones in track suits and sports shoes in giving a quick
visual examination more so if the persons happens o be a woman. It works both
ways- I mean the brief phenomenon- of getting caught for an unsolicited glance
(I won’t call it an ogle). More men try
to be quick before being caught by an angry equally quick response as they hasten
ahead at faster pace.
The attire the morning walkers sport is one reason. In most cases
the attire is ill fitting- either too tight or too loose. The clothes worn vary
widely- from believe me- Lungi, yes Lungi!! and Dhoti to shorts that are a bit
too short (tennis shorts- even the tennis players don’t wear tennis shorts
these days) for the skinny males legs
that strut. Then there are those wearing cargos, boxer shorts. Some are too
decently dressed- shirts tucked-in neatly as if after the walk they are ready
to head for office. Same case with the
fairer sex. Saris, tights, salwar kurtas, tees- some tight fitting, some loose.
There is a group of village women (yes there’s a village nearby) who have got
the fancy of morning walk in the park. They walk with their faces neatly
covered by their pallus.
Blame the movie ‘Khamoshi’. There is a scene of lunatic asylum-
inmates throwing their hands in the air, some jumping. Most doing erratic
things. The park wears similar look. Different versions Ramdev’s teachings in
action are seen. People shake their legs, laugh for nothing, alone. Some have
their legs up, some hold their nostrils and breathe.
